Sadly it didn't keep my attention as long as I hoped. I'm not entirely sure why. I think part of it had to do with the crappy performance on my computer. I might revisit after upgrading at some point.
Yeah I was getting really into it, but the MMO grind got to me after about level 30. I really wanted to keep playing for the story, but couldn't bring myself to do it. The most recent Penny Arcade story about the game sums it up...
Yeah, that pretty much summed it up for me as well t3ch. I really enjoyed the first 25 levels but after that it got to be too much running around and not much reward...
Made it to 42 within the first week of release, got myself and my companion full 40 PvP gear.
Haven't touched it since I hit 50. The dungeons/raids were too buggy, and it completely turned me off. Game has potential though.
Until the next big MMO comes out, I will be playing the TERA Beta and waiting for GW2. I miss life when NERD CS and EverQuest took up the majority of my gaming time, and I was pleased with those facts.
So, it's not worth trying out? I've been completely out of the loop since moving, but now I'm ready to try some new games. I'm getting really tired of playing MW3...
For me, the game was too focused, but at the same time didn't feel like it built on what other MMOs had implemented. It felt too much like a single-player RPG that you played for a while, then jumped into the online portion to play a quick dungeon with other players, before going back to the single-player campaign. There's no sense that your effort is leading up to something epic in the endgame. It also feels very short.
I only got to level 26, so maybe the others who went higher can explain it better.
I'm not sure I can say exactly what the failure of SWTOR was. I loved playing in the beta. I spent two full weekends playing, but once the game was released it didn't feel like the same atmosphere. I think it might have been people interacting more in the beta which made it feel less like a single player game. Once the game was released, it was so full of idiots I left the general chat channels. Ironically, though, the most enjoyable aspect of the game was the space missions which have to be done solo.
I had such high hopes for the game after the beta, but at least I haven't gone back to WoW (yet). CoD:MW3 is keeping me occupied.
